The Project
A £55m family style private housing development within a 30 hectares former rock quarry in Ratho comprising 111 detached and terraced houses. It is part of wider restoration project within the quarry void led by the creation of a country park and water sports centre. An environmentally sensitive site, we are working in proximity to the Union Canal, protected woodland and a nature conservation site.
Our Role
Akela was appointed following a competitive tendering process to provide comprehensive infrastructure and plotworks solutions for CALA comprising:
- Enabling works – relic foundation removal, minor demolitions, vegetation clearance, soil strip, environmental protection measures and compound establishment.
- Construction of a temporary sales area with parking.
- Cut and fill earthworks across a 10 hectares area with extensive rock excavation using mechanical breakers and rippers.
- Surplus soil removal – 28,000 m3
- The isolation and removal of 6,000 m3 of hydrocarbon and Japanese Knotweed contaminated soils for treatment.
- Surface water drainage network including a SUDS pond.
- Asphalt and monoblock finished circulation roads.
- A new T- junction, traffic calming and footpath improvements on Wilkieston Road.
- Concrete retaining walls.
- Substructures and floorslabs for 111 houses.
- Plotworks for 111 houses.
- Installation of a sewer network including a pumping station, rising main and off-site network connections.
- Hard landscaping, remote footpaths and the preparation of 3 hectares of soft landscaping areas.
- Civil engineering support for CALA’s subcontractors engaged in specialist foundations and services installation.
