The Project
A £60m family style private housing development on a greenfield 12 hectares edge of settlement site in South Glasgow being developed jointly by Bellway and Persimmon. It is part of a wider mixed use scheme including retail and business park uses being managed by Valad.
Our Role
Akela was appointed following a competitive tendering process to provide the common infrastructure and associated enabling earthworks for this major residential scheme.
- Bulk earthworks with associated temporary drainage – 100,000 m3
- Foul and surface water drainage including network connections.
- SUDS pond including lining, headwalls, landscaping and fencing.
- Service trenches excavation and backfilling.
- Strategic water main protection for Scottish Water including extensive temporary works and the use of a specialist lightweight “Leca” fill.
- Distributor road construction with footpaths and streetlighting.
- Hard landscaping, remote footpaths and the preparation of soft landscaping areas.
- Haul roads and compound construction for two residential development sites.
- Traffic management to address shared access with an existing residential area, other construction activity and a large retail warehouse.
- All enabling infrastructure completed within the first 6 months of the project, ensuring that Bellway and Persimmon could commence their sales activity.

- A major project for Akela in our core real estate development market with repeat business from two key bluechip clients.
- As well as undertaking the common infrastructure Akela had been engaged by Bellway and Persimmon to undertake all siteworks for their 320 house developments, bringing our overall contract value to over £8m.
