The Project
A £40m family style private housing development within the brownfield site of a former cement works comprising 220 terraced, semi and detached houses.
Our Role
Akela was appointed following a competitive tendering process to provide the common infrastructure and associated enabling earthworks for this major residential scheme comprising:
- New access comprising highway realignment, two roundabouts and a distributor road.
- Reconstruction of an existing double roundabout junction at Sunnyside Road for North Lanarkshire Council.
- Reconstruction of Hollandhurst Road for North Lanarkshire Council – 3,000m2.
- SUDS pond reconstruction and combined sewer upgrade for Scottish Water including deep drainage installation and large diameter pipework.
- Cut and fill earthworks across the 15 hectares sloping site - 200,000 m3.
- Remediation – asbestos and Japanese Knotweed management.
- Implementation of an exacting construction phase traffic management scheme.
- Services diversion and protection.
- Hard landscaping, remote footpaths and the preparation of soft landscaping areas.
- Haul roads and compound construction for two residential development sites.
Highlights
In addition to the enabling infrastructure project, Akela was appointed by BDW to undertake all plotworks for the development, taking our overall contract value to over £8,000,000.
