About Akela Construction
Akela Construction is one of Scotland's top construction companies and civil engineering contractors, with headquarters in Glasgow and operating across the Central Belt and Southern Scotland. Formed in 2003, we have grown to become a trusted contractor in our key markets. Construction turnover in 2018 was over £36 million and we have over 270 employees. Our business priorities remain the same today as they did then; to work safely and to deliver our projects on time, on budget and to exceed customer expectations. With this approach, we aim to build long-term client relationships resulting in repeat business.
Part of the Akela Group, we have the resources to deliver comprehensive enabling and infrastructure solutions; Seller's Works, for our clients, with services covering Earthworks, Drainage and SUDS, Roads, Foundations, Concrete Works and Plotworks.
Working across the private and public sectors, we have become a partner of choice for civil engineering and groundworks solutions with housebuilders, main contractors, local authorities, public utilities and industry. We work as Principal Contractor for the majority of our clients.
Our clients include some of the best known housebuilders including CALA, Persimmon, Cruden, Bellway, AS Homes and Barratt. We also undertake extensive civils works for non housing clients.
Our business model is that we self-deliver, meaning that our employees deliver our services and we only use subcontractors for specialist skills. This gives us greater control of health and safety practices, training, productivity and quality of workmanship.
We take a solutions-based approach to all our projects. For example, with our sister company DGM Surfacing, we offer a "one-stop shop" and economies of scale where your requirements include civil engineering and surfacing. Where you require both of these services, you only need to contact Akela Construction and deal with one company. That will reduce your management and estimating effort and save you money.
The company invests heavily in staff training and development. TALA Training, which is an Akela Group company, helps ensure that our employees are kept up to date with health and safety and construction training.
Accreditations from CHAS (Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme), SMAS (Safety Management Advisory Services) and Constructionline are proof of our commitment to health and safety standards and business credentials.
